Billy “Leon” Holly, 82, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Leon was born on September 12, 1936 to the late Scott and Reva Shell Holly.

Leon was a very active member of East Unaka Christian Church. He graduated from Mary Hughes High School, attended ETSU and joined the Air Force right after high school. He worked for the FBI and retired from General Motors Acceptance Corporation. Leon always looked forward to the Mary Hughes reunions.

Leon enjoyed working in his yard, traveling with Jerry, Pam and Elizabeth Love, and lending his “big red truck” to those who needed help. He attended almost every UT football and basketball game for the nearly 60 years.

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by one cousin he considered a brother, Donald Lowe.

Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Saylor Holly; one aunt, Charlotte Taylor; and many loving cousins.

The family would like to thank Cornerstone Rehab, Quillen Rehab, the nurses of Franklin Woods and JCMC, and especially Dr. Phil Jones, for the loving care provided to Leon.

The family of Leon Holly will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at East Unaka Christian Church. The funeral will follow at 7 PM with Dr. Wayne Emery officiating. Eulogy will be provided by Paul Peer and Jerry Love. Pallbearers include: Kevin Stilwell, Brian Lowe, Brian Huffine, Alan Taylor and Jimmy Lane. Honorary pallbearers include: James Sanders, Jerry Love, Paul Crussell, GMAC workers and his McDonald’s coffee buddies. The committal service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 11 AM at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Unaka Christian Church, 1201 E. Unaka Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601.
