Carolyn Jewel Hundley Hamilton Pickens

June 7, 1940 ~ December 9, 2019

Born in: Knoxville, Tennessee
Resided in: Johnson City, Tennessee

Carolyn Jewel Hundley Hamilton Pickens, 79, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 9, 2019, following a brief illness.

She was born in Knoxville on June 7, 1940, to the late Rondal and Wanna Hundley.

Carolyn attended Science Hill High School, where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She graduated in 1958, and has faithfully attended monthly gatherings for her graduating class in the time since.

She enjoyed reading, learning about history, going to the beach, attending church, and playing card games. Carolyn enjoyed these things even more when she could share them with family and friends.

As a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church, Carolyn had a heart for service. She never missed an opportunity to join her friends in Sunday School.

Though she worked many places over the years, the one closest to her heart was her job as hostess at the People’s Street Chik-Fil-A. Here she was known as “Miss Carolyn”, and everyone she met was known as a new friend. Her greatest gift was that she made everyone feel like they were her favorite, and she always took the time to make sure that people knew how special they were.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: brother, Coach Tommy Hundley; favorite aunt, Georgie Johnson; and step-son, Lee Pickens.
Survivors include: son, Ronny Hamilton and his wife Tammy, and their sons Jordan, Corey and his wife, Livvy; daughter, Robin Bowman and her husband Eddie, their daughter Elizabeth Martin and her husband Phillip, son Chad Brown and his wife Clarissa, their sons, Beau and Drew; daughter, Jodi Pugh and her boyfriend Michael Hubbard, her children, Mason Pugh, Peyton Pugh; father of her children, Bobby J. Hamilton; step-daughter Nicole Pate, and many cherished friends.

The family of Carolyn Pickens will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Boone Trail Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow, officiated by Pastors Dwight Jenkins and Josh Lake. A committal service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 13, 2019, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to gather at the graveside by 9:50 AM.

Pallbearers will be: Chad Brown, Jordan Hamilton, Corey Hamilton, Mason Pugh, Peyton Pugh, and Wayne Richards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter, 3411 N Roan St, Johnson City, TN 37601, or to Good Samaritan Ministries Inc, 100 N Roan St, Johnson City, TN 3760.

My condolences to Jodi and family. It honestly broke my heart when I heard of her passing. She always treated me as one of her own and no matter how long the time was between my seeing her she always told me she loved me before she would let me go. I will miss her smile, her laugh, and her kindness. I will always remember the love she gave and the talks we had. God speed to her family and friends.

We only knew Carolyn for a short time when she moved in across the street, but loved her dearly.
