Charles Timothy Smith

July 12, 1950 ~ December 17, 2008

With great sadness the family of Charles "Tim"? Smith announces his death at the age of 58 on December 17, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Tim was originally from Kingsport, and has been a resident of Johnson City for the last 20 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles Ellis and Doris A. Smith of Kingsport. Tim was the beloved grandson of the late J. Harlan Smith and Margatet Lyons Smith of Kingsport, and cherished nephew of Maryana Smth Huff and the late Creswell D. Huff of Johnson City; the brother of Cheryl Smith Graves, Karen Smith Mann both of Florida and Margaret Ellen Smith of Ontario, Canada. Tim attended school in Kingsport, graduating from Glade Valley High School, NC, where he earned the honour of class Validictorian, 1968. He was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam era. Tim retired from Bell South as an electronics specialist. Tim was a quiet man, having never married, with a passion for genealogy, literature and music. His home was filled with family photographs and books, which he treasured. He will be missed by devoted friends who lovingly cared for him during his illness, giving generously of their time and spirit. Private burial services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport at a later time.     I know that while Tim was somewhat reclusive, he will be sorely missed by his sister Margaret, as well as the rest of the family. We send our sympathy and we know that he is in a better place now with his Heavenly Father and is even now continuing on with the love of his life: geneology.

    I was saddened to learn of the passing of Tim and I know that his sisters will greatly miss him. Since my brother died several years ago, I know that it can leave a void in our lives. We’ve been friends for over 50 years and it’s still hard to beleive your gone.We’ve been through a lot together but this is the hardest.My heart felt condolences to your family and may the pain they are felling be lessened with GODS help.     I will miss my Uncle Tim very much. We were so happy to see each other everytime we were together. He was my only Uncle on my mom’s side. Uncle Tim was loved by my family. We will continue to love him until we meet again.

    i would like my family to know, how very sad i am about the loss of uncle tim. he was a very loving man to those he was close to. i was very sorry i was unable to attend the services and that my heart and prayers are with the rest of our family as we let him go to a place of peace and no more pain. i love and miss you.

    I went to high school with Tim at Glade Valley. We were in the same class together and I remember him well and can see him standing in the hallway of our dorm, smiling, always with a good attitude.
