James Larry Hammett, age 74, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at his home.

James was born on February 26, 1945 in Pocahontas, Virginia. He worked as custodian and maintenance person, and he was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending church at Upper Room Worship Center in Johnson City.

James was preceded in death by: his mother, Nellie Hammett; wife in 2014, Nyoka Charlene Hammett; brothers, George Wright, Henry Wright, and Butch Hammett; and sisters, Wanda Hammett and Brenda Beckner.

Those left to remember James include: a son, Jason Hammett (and Heather Davis); daughter, Dewanan “DJ” Buchanan; grandchildren, Samantha (Shuggie) Hammett, Gage Davis, and Gunner Davis; brother, Herbert Wright; and several nieces and nephews, and one very special niece, Faye “Dink” Kelly Joyce.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
