Don’t cry for me, for I have no fear. All my pain is gone and Jesus took my tears. Don’t cry for me. This is not the end. I’ll be waiting here for you when we meet again.

Jean Kearney Keefauver, Johnson City, passed peacefully at home on July 21, 2019, following a battle with cancer.

Born July 17, 1932, in Jonesborough, she was the oldest of three children of the late Carl Kearney, Sr. and Helen Vines Kearney Hyder. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, later living in Boones Creek and Johnson City. She was a member of East Unaka Christian Church.

In her youth, she was employed by Stein-Way Clothing Company, a major manufacturer of military clothing during the 1950’s-60’s, as a seamstress.

Jean was an avid reader who loved to travel and was extremely devoted to her faith. She developed a remarkable work ethic throughout her life and became a dedicated homemaker, nurturing and caring for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, “Jack” Keefauver; and one sister, Carlene Kyker.

Survivors include: two daughters, Janine Dykes Tilson and husband Dave, and Susan Dykes Tunstall and husband Charles; one son, Ronald Dykes and wife Peggy; one brother, Carl Kearney, Jr. and wife Mary; one grandchild, Chad Dykes; and two great grandchildren, Jesse and Joseph Dykes.

The family would like to thank Avalon Hospice for the care they provided to Jean.
