William L. “Bill” Stevens, age 100, born May 13, 1919, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at The Waters of Johnson City.
Bill was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from April 7, 1941 – August 26, 1945. He served under General George Patton in Africa, Egypt and Italy.
He retired from Klopman Mills after 30 years of service. He was a farmer and a car mechanic on the side. He was the oldest living member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was always praising the Lord!
He was preceded in death by: the love of his life, Ruby, married 70 years; his parents, Alvin Thomas and Dora Miller Stevens; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: son, Jerry Stevens and his wife Sherry; granddaughters, Lisa Parrish and her husband Dwight and Lori Peterson and her husband Michael; great grandchildren, Kristin Lance and her husband Justin, and Stephen Parrish; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Papaw’s famous words, “If I lay down to sleep tonight and don’t wake up, I will wake up tomorrow in Heaven!”
The family of Bill Stevens will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at Antioch Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastors Pete Tackett and Richard Long officiating. Pallbearers include: Jim Donaldson, Preston Chapman, Gary Whetsell, Clint Nelson, Mike Cohran and John Brown. Honorary pallbearers include: Roy Garvin, Alen Johnson, Michael Peterson, Dwight Parrish, Perry Whittaker, Doug Lowe, Stephen Parrish and members of Norris Bicycle Shop. The committal service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at Roselawn Memory Gardens with military honors. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM.
