Mr. A.R. Barnett, 90, of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Barnett was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late A.R. and Julia Peterson Barnett. Mr. Barnett was a veteran of the U.S Air Force. He retired from the United States Postal Service after forty-five years of service. A.R. was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and Bible classes. Prior to being at Sinking Creek he taught Sunday School and Bible classes at old Calvary Presbyterian Church, where he also served as an Elder and Treasurer. In addition to his parents, A.R. was preceded in death by one son, David Keith Barnett; one grandson, Lance Barnett; two brothers, Paul Barnett and Claude Barnett; two sisters, Helen Clark and Mildred Vance. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Maxine Minton Barnett; one daughter, Robin Cole; two sons, Travis Barnett and Darryl Barnett and his wife Wendy; six grandchildren, Nikki Cornelius and her husband Keith, Heath Barnett and his wife Jill, Reis Barnett, Aliyah Barnett, Alexa Barnett and Matthew Barnett; two great grandchildren, Reed Barnett and Jenny Lyn Barnett. The graveside committal service for Mr. A.R. Barnett will be conducted at 3 PM Saturday, October 25, 2014, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Reece Harris will officiate. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 PM Saturday.
