Ada Clara Weems

Ada C. Weems, 101, 913 W. Hillcrest Drive, died Friday, July 13, 2007 at North Side Hospital. Mrs. Weems was born in Gray and moved to Johnson City at the early age of sixteen. She was a daughter of the late Earnest and Julia Ford Copas and was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Weems, Sr., two sons, James Roy 'J.R.'? Weems and Carl E. Weems, Jr. and two grandsons, Ricky Dean Weems and Allen 'Bucky'? Weems; three sisters, Edith Combs, Paralee Curtis and Cora Lee Ward and four brothers, Sherman Copas, Cyrus Copas, James Copas and Maynard Copas. Mrs. Weems was retired from the Johnson City School Systems. She was baptized into the Downtown Christian Church in the early 1920s and became a lifelong member. Survivors include one daughter, Doris Marshall, Johnson City; fourteen grandchildren including, a special grandson, who she raised, Carl 'Buddy'? Weems III; 14 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Weems will be conducted at 8 PM Tuesday, July 1`7, 2007 from the Morris-Baker Funeral South Chapel. Dr. Eddie Fine and Dr. Jess Johnson will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 PM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael Adams, Alex Potter, Bradley Potter, Taylor Anderson, Matthew Weems, Michael Weems and Jamie Weems. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Downtown Christian Church and grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Downtown Christian Church, Building Fund, 335 E Main Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
