Anita Pauline Stewart, 86, 2703 Sunrise Avenue, Johnson City died Monday, November 13, 2006 in the James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center at Mountain Home. Mrs. Stewart was a native of Carter County, had lived in New York, in Knoxville, Tn and came to Johnson City in 1990 to make her home. She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ina Meade Shaw Stewart. Mrs. Stewart is also preceded in death by: three sisters, Martha Baker, Nell Merritt and Betty Mae Stewart; two brothers, Thomas Stewart and Mack Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was the owner and operator of the 'The Huddle', a grill in Knoxville for many years. She was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II serving as an ambulance driver. She had been a member of the Union Baptist Church in Hampton, TN since 1934. Survivors include: two brothers, James D. Stewart of Johnson City and Franklin D. Stewart of Kingsport; two sisters, Margaret JoAnn Way of Johnson City and Marcella Sue Combs of Limestone; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Anita Pauline Stewart will be conducted at 7:30 PM Thursday, November 16, 2006 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Rev. Sonny Thomas will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 PM Friday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the V.F.W. Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 12:30 PM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Baker and Eddie. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker on Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM prior to the service.
