Barbara Maryann Whisnant

Barbara Whisnant passed away at home with family by her side on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the age of 73 years after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born January 27, 1938 in White Plains, New York to the late Joseph and Heddy Krizan. She is survived by Arnold Whisnant of Johnson City, TN, husband of 50 years, and a son, Gregory Whisnant, wife Valerie, and grandson Zachary, of Florence, KY. She is also survived by one sister, Audrey Baker and husband Rob of West End, NC; stepmother Madeline Krizan of Binghamton, NY; two half brothers, Bruce Krizan and wife, Carol, of Binghamton, NY and Brock Krizan and wife, Karen, of Corvallis, OR; half sister, Leslie Salerno and husband Steve of Cincinnati, OH; an aunt, Marian Parkyns of Phoenix, AZ; first cousins Meredith Mastrangelo of Phoenix, AZ and Jeff Krizan of Southbury, CT, Bill Krizan of Saddle River, NJ, Barbara Slocum of Grangeville, NY and two nieces, Monique Baker of Burgaw, NC and Samantha Baker of West End, NC. Barbara attended Briarcliff High School in White Plains, NY and graduated from Syracuse University, after which she went to work in New York City as Casting Director for Advertising Agency Doherty, Clifford, Steers and Shenfield. She moved to Johnson City with her husband in 1967. She worked as Producer/Director for Channel 2 educational television for several years prior to joining her husbands business, Snelling Personnel. She quickly became a highly successful Recruiter for management and engineer positions, primarily in the manufacturing field. When she retired, she pursued her passion for art and became quite an accomplished painter under the name of Emanuel Scott (family names). She enjoyed painting with the Forest Avenue Fine Art Painting Studio. She was a very active member of the Shady Oaks Garden Club until her illness. She was an Episcopalian. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider a donation in Barbaras name to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Ste 102, Johnson City, TN 37601-2060 or www.cancer.org. Morris Baker Funeral Home of Johnson City, TN is handling all arrangements. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Morris Baker on Monday, August 15th. A brief memorial for close family and friends will be held immediately afterwards in the South Chapel at Morris Baker.
