Barbara W. Goan

Barbara W. Goan, age 74, of Gray, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Memphis TN. on December 11, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Jerome M. Wilson and the late Nelle C. Wilson. Mrs. Goan graduated from Memphis Central High School and enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. In 1959 she graduated with a BS in Home Economics. Mrs. Goan married John C. Goan in 1959 and resided with him in Alexandria, VA, where she worked for the National Child Research Center and the Virginia Employment Commission. In 1969 Barbara and her husband moved with their young children, Andrew and Katherine, to Johnson City where they lived until 1985. She was a member of the Junior Monday Club and the Junior Service League. Later, she relocated to Centreville VA, Charlotte NC, and Toledo OH, returning to Tennessee in 2002. She lived in Gray and was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: her husband of fifty-two years, John C. Goan; one son, Andrew R. Goan and wife Yvonda Goan of Weddington, North Carolina; one daughter, Katherine G. Harmon and husband Gary of Knoxville; five grandchildren: Brittany Goan, Mallory Goan, Alexander Goan, Kaitlyn Harmon and Nathan Harmon. The funeral service for Mrs. Barbara W. Goan will be conducted at 11 AM Monday February 27, 2012 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Charles Echols will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5825 Fort Henry Drive, Kingsport, Tn. 37663 or the charity of your choice.
