Bertha Mae Cox

Bertha Mae Cox, 88, of 125 Circle Drive, Gray, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at her residence. She was a native of Ashford, North Carolina, daughter of the late William 'Folk'? and Elizabeth Mae 'Lizzie'? Hollifield. Bertha was a homemaker and midwife in Sullivan County for over 40 years. She resided in the Watauga community for over 60 years before moving to Gray to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church in Ashford, NC but frequently attended the Watauga Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George V. Cox in 1986; two daughters, Bonnie and Irma Jean Cox; three sons, Robert Lewis Cox, George C. Cox, Jr. and Charles Cox. Survivors include: four daughters, Evelyn Hollifield of Marion, NC, Ina E. Holden, of North Pole, Alaska, Phyllis Larimer and her husband Harry, of Gray and Ava Cox Skeans, of Watauga; nine sons, Norman 'Bud'? Cox and his wife Margie, of Marion, NC, Allen D. Cox and his wife Linda, of Johnson City, Harold 'Tad'? Cox and his wife Mary, of Ashford, NC, Reginald ' Perry'? Cox and his wife Norma, of Watauga, Delbert 'Buster'? Cox and his wife Wanda, of Hendersonville, NC, Wayne A. Cox, of Watauga, William S. 'Bill'? Cox and his wife Carolyn, of Watauga, James C. 'Dink'? Cox and his wife Karla, of Piney Flats and Dennis C. 'Punk'? Cox and his wife Donna, of Piney Flats; 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Bertha Mae Cox will be conducted at 8 PM Saturday, April 28, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Jim McMahan will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 1:45 PM. Active Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Saturday prior to the service. Special thanks to Hospice, Dr. Leland Cleveland, Dr. Joe Reid and special son-in-law Harry Larimer.
