Bertha Rose Alfonso, formerly of 104 Ridgemont Road, Johnson City went to be with her Lord when she died at Lakebridge Health Care Center on December 3, 2005. Her death came a few days short of her 104th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Alfonso , her parents, John and Josephine (Reinhart) Schmitt, a sister and five brothers. Mrs. Alfonso was born in Buffalo, New York, was raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area and lived for many years in Garden City, New York and later, Oceanside, New York before moving to Johnson City in 1997.She was a much beloved mother, grandmother and aunt. She was also loved by all who knew her. For many years she worked in the Interior Decorating field. Mrs. Alfonzo was a homemaker, who along with other women worked in the defense industry during World War II. She had many interests and talents and enjoyed reading, quilting, ceramics, and sewing. She was never happier then when working in her flower gardens. She was a founding member of New Hyde Park Baptist Church (New York) and later attended Windsor Avenue Bible Church, Oceanside, New York. She is survived by two daughters: Alice Emillo and her husband, Henry, Oceanside, New York and Jeane Fraser, Johnson City, TN; one son, Dr. Robert J. Alfonso and his wife ,Martha of Johnson City; seven grandchildren; Allison Alfonso, Johnson City, Robert J. Alfonso, Jr. and wife Roberta ,Oak Ridge, TN; Henru Emillo, Jr. and his wife Amy of Elyria, Ohio; Lorraine Frank and husband Neal, Fryeburg, Maine; James Fraser and wife Teresa, of Erie, Colorado; John Fraser, Jr., of Boulder, Colorado; and Jennifer McCain and husband, David, Johnson City ; by fifteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Bertha Rose Alfonso will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2005 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Donald Fredericks will officiate. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 12 Noon to 2 PM Wednesday prior to the service
