Beryl Johnson

August 15, 1917 — December 2, 2015

Beryl Johnson, age 98, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2015, at the Lowman Home in White Rock, SC. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband Glenn Johnson , her five siblings, and her granddaughter Amy Bishop Todd. Beryl was born in Johnson City, TN in 1917 and resided there until 2007. She was lifelong, devout member of East Pine Grave Park United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and had an active church life. Beryl enjoyed being a member of the choir and singing in the annual cantata. Beryl embodied the spirit of generosity, love, and the joy of life. After 35 years as the Ready-to-Wear Buyer at JC Penney, she retired and devoted the next 25 years of her life volunteering at both the Johnson City Medical Center and the Asbury Center Nursing Home. She received such gratification from her volunteer work. In 2007, she moved to Columbia, SC to live with her son and family. Beryl loved anything to do with family gatherings. Whether it be a trip overseas, a trip to the beach or to the mountains, as long as it was with family, she was happy. While living in Columbia, she attended Mt Horeb United Methodist Church. She is survived by her beloved son Houston (Ann) Bishop; three grandchildren, Cynthia Westin of Naples, FL, Jennifer (Mark) Masse of Irmo, SC, and Matthew (Kimberly) Bishop of Tampa, FL. She was blessed with eight great grandchildren, Patrick and Johan (Cecilia) Westin of Naples, FL, Emily Westin of Baton Rouge, LA, Heather (Brian) Applegate of Irmo, SC, Adam and Anna Masse of Irmo, SC, Zachary Todd and Ashton Bishop of Columbia, SC. She was also blessed with one great, great grandchild Collin Applegate of Irmo, SC. The family of Beryl Johnson will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday December 5, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM with Pastor Lon Tobin officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Springhill High School?s Special Needs Program, Attn: Olivia Cassell at, 11629 Broad River Rd., Chapin, SC 29036.
