Beverly Larae Walker Mcafee

November 24, 1925 — February 20, 2009

Beverly LaRae Pope Walker McAfee, 83, of 4019 Timberlake Road, Johnson City died Friday, February 20, 2009 at NHC Healthcare. Mrs. McAfee was born Nov. 24, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a daughter of the late Garland and Doris Mulcock Pope . Beverly spent her youth in the wide-open spaces of the west. She was swept off her feet by an Army Air Corp pilot, Harry Walker, during WW II and landed in the green hills of Tennessee. Time and events took her back to Salt Lake City for many years of raising a family, working as a labor union administrator, and living the good life. Years later she was rescued again by another Tennessee Army Air Corp pilot, J.G. McAfee. She loved her life on her Tennessee mountain top refuge with wildlife abounding. The countless variety of birds and animals provided her companionship, serenity and peace. It was home. Mrs. McAfee was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, Harry D. Walker in 1985; her second husband, J.G. 'Mac'? McAfee in 1998; and a son, Darrell Walker. Survivors include: one daughter, Debby and husband John Butterworth of Concord, CA; two grandsons, Jonathan Butterworth of Seattle, WA and Andrew Butterworth of Martinez, CA; one brother, Boyd Pope of Salt Lake City, UT; two sisters, Joylin Mahl of California and Gayle Holmgren of Iowa; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Beverly P. Walker McAfee will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Monte Vista Memorial Park in Johnson City. Rev. Kaye Florence will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 1:30 PM till service time in the Mausoleum Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Wynnwood Wildlife Rehab, 150 Cecil Estep, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Caris Healthcare, NHC Healthcare, Paul Anderson, Nancy Worley, and Suzy Snowden for their loving care and attention during Mrs. McAfees time of need. Her family and friends know, surely if there is a Heaven, Mom is greeting St. Peter at those Pearly Gates with a box of Dark Chocolates in one hand and a Root Beer float in the other.
