Billy Joe Phillips, 83, of Johnson City, died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton. He was a native of Unicoi, son of the late Vaughn and Mamie Treadway Phillips. Billy Joe was a retired mechanic. He had lived in Queens, NY for over twenty years and was owner/operator of K?s Auto and Truck Repair from 1978 to 2002. He served his country during the Korean War by serving in the U. S. Army. Billy Joe was a member of the Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, his loving wife of 25 years and best friend in all the world Kathryn Praxmarer Phillips; a sister, Janice Castle; two brothers, Doyle and Bob Phillips preceded him in death. Survivors include: two daughters and a son-in-law, Laura Phillips of Elizabethton, Susanne and Bobby Caponero of Johnson City; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Fender of Unicoi and Joyce Simmons of Johnson City; a brother, Jimmy Phillips of Unicoi; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 3:00pm until 5:00pm in the Oak Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 5:00pm under the direction of Pastor George Rolling. A committal service is scheduled for Monday, June 6, 2016 at 11:00am in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. All those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 10:30am.
