C. Laveta Dr. Ligon

June 12, 1924 — March 10, 2018

Dr. C. LaVeta Ligon, born June 12, 1924 in Altus, OK went to be with her Heavenly father, parents, and brothers, Saturday morning March 10, 2018, at Cornerstone Village, her Johnson City residence. Dr. Ligon had a long and notable life. She received many honors and designations throughout her career. She was an honored professor at ETSU and served there from 1964, starting as an Assistant Professor and retiring in 1989 as a Professor of Psychology and Counseling. She taught both graduate and undergraduate classes at ETSU. She received a PhD from Florida State University, in Tallahassee, FL in 1970 after earlier education at George Peabody College for teachers in Nashville, Baylor University in Waco, TX and Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK. All her education lead to becoming a licensed Psychologist in Tennessee and becoming a National Board Certified Counselor. Throughout her career, she worked as a Graduate Assistant and as a lower division counselor at Florida State University, while working on her doctorate and on leave from ETSU from 64-70 on loan from ETSU. Prior to her time at ETSU she taught at Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD also at Frostburg State College in Frostburg, MD, and George Peabody College in Nashville. From 1955-1960 she was director of student activities at Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, MO. She was or had been associated with a number of professional organizations including the American Psychological Association, Southeastern Psychological Association, Tennessee Psychological Association and the Inter-mountain Psychological Association. She was a member of Psi Chi, Kappa Delta Pi, and Delta Kappa Gamma National Honor Societies. She was also a part of the American Personnel and Guidance Association. She served as President of the Tennessee Personnel and Guidance Association and also the Watauga Personnel and Guidance Association in the 70s. Dr. Ligon was also a member of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She served as secretary and on several committees of the American Association of University Professors during the 70s for the ETSU University Chapter. She was a loving aunt to her brothers children, her niece, Carileen Ligon Bollinger of Jacksonville, FL and her nephew, Tracy Ligon, of Fort Worth, TX. Carileens three children, her great niece, Rhonda Hull of Charlotte, NC, Brandon Bollinger of Jacksonville, FL and Derek Bollinger of Jacksonville, their 10 children, her great great nieces and nephews and 3 great great great niece and nephews. They will all miss their 'Aunt Veta' but rest assured she is with Jesus, and they can be reunited by His blood on the cross one day.
