Mr. Calvin C. Tipton, 79, 2627 Cherokee Road, Johnson City died Wednesday April 1, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Tipton was a resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Calvin and Frankie Linville Tipton. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Tipton; one grandson Matthew Wayne Walsh; three brothers, Arnold, Tom and Paul Tipton; two sisters, Verna Laws and Pauline Tipton. Mr. Tipton worked for Harris Manufacturing for twenty-five years and retired from Kennametal after twenty-seven years of service. He was a member of the Green Pine Baptist Church. Survivors include: one son, Charles 'Eddie'? Tipton and his wife Mary of Johnson City; five daughters, Sandra Tipton McKinney and her husband Johnny of Anderson, South Carolina, Connie J. Tipton of Johnson City, Cathy Tipton Stanton and her husband Sam of Jonesborough, Debbie Tipton Rodefer and her husband Joe of Jonesborough and Donna Tipton Walsh and her husband David of Elizabethton; three brothers, Ray Tipton of Gray, Glen Tipton of Johnson City and Gene Tipton of Johnson City; two sisters, Myrtle McKee of Johnson City and Thelma Britt of Gray; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Calvin C. Tipton will be conducted at 8 PM Friday April 3, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Wayne White and Rev. Dr. Johnny McKinney will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Amateur Radio Operators. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 AM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Mountain States Hospice, 101 Med Tech Park, Johnson City, Tn 37604.
