Carl Bremson

October 24, 1912 — May 18, 2007

Carl Bremson of Gray, TN., passed away at home on Friday, May 17 after an extended illness. Carl was born in Mosul, Iraq on October 24, 1914. He attended the American University in Beirut, Lebanon, and immigrated to the United States for completion of his education, arriving at Ellis Island on September 19,1936. He graduated from Columbia Union College, with a B.A. in History and completed his graduate work at the American University in Washington, D.C. with a Masters degree in Political Science. He taught Arabic at Andrews University Seminary before moving to his 'beloved East Tennessee'?, which he called 'home'? since 1950. He spoke, taught, and translated classical Arabic, had a life long love of learning, and was a master teacher. His areas of interest and expertise included English, History, Poetry, Politics and Religion. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Powers Bremson, of 62 years. He is survived by his three daughters, Shirley Crowson, of Atlanta, GA., Carlene Jamerson of Calhoun, GA., and Sue Gilk, of Kingman, AZ. His grandchildren include Travis Crowson, of Lexington, KY, Jeremy Jamerson of Orlando, FL, and Julie Jamerson of Atlanta, GA. and two great grandchildren, Joshua and Seth Crowson. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Ave. in Johnson City, TN on Monday, May 21, 2007 from 6 to 7 PM. A celebration service will follow at 7 p.m. The concluding service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22nd at the Gray cemetery with Paull Dixon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carl Bremson Scholarship Fund at Columbia Union College Development Office, 7600 Flower Ave., Takoma Park, MD 20912 or the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, New York 10018.
