Obituary: Carl P. Black (with photo) Carl P. Black, 78, 305 Lisa Lane, Piney Flats went to be with his Heavenly Father and join his wife of fifty-four years, Margaret Stevens Black in Heaven on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. He passed to his next journey surrounded by his loved ones at the Johnson City Medical Center following a heart attack at Winged Deer Park. Mr. Black was born in Hickory, NC on September 16, 1928 and came to Johnson City in 1930. He was a son of the late William and May Belle Ramsey Black. He is also preceded in death by two brothers Clarence Black and Claude Black. Mr. Black proudly served in the U.S. Navy in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Sperry. He was awarded the Navy Service Metal, the WW II Victory Ribbon and the Ruptured Duck. Carl had enjoyed many careers from a radio personality at WETB in the 50s to a over-the-road trucker and tour bus driver in the 60s and 70s. He was happiest while working with the Johnson City Parks and Recreation as Johnson City Cardinals Clubhouse Manager and Park Security at Winged Deer Park for the past twenty years. Carl was many things to many people, a old song and dance man, professional skater, jump roper, yoyo artist, and stunt car driver. To know him was to love him. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dennis Mullins of Piney Flats; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Karen Black of Huntsville, AL, Randy Black of Huntsville, AL, and Ronnie and Leigh Ann Black of Johnson City; three granddaughters, Shannon Yates, Jennifer Black, and Jordan Black; four grandsons, Jason Bailey, Matthew Black, Jeremy Black, and Bobby Black; three great grandchildren, Coco Oudom, Austin Black, and Abigail Margaret Bennett; one sister, Louise Sproles of Bay St. Louis, Miss; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Carl P. Black will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The procession will form at Morris-Baker by 10:30 AM Thursday. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Tennessee National Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
