Mrs. Carmeleta J. Hankal, 79, 1007 Borowood Court, Jonesborough passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, November 11, 2010 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Mrs Hankal was a devoted and loving mother. She was a 1950 graduate of Jonesborough High School. After marriage, she and her family resided for many years in Unicoi County before moving back to Jonesborough in 1981. She was a daughter of the late Cliner Jackson and Martha Walker Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tony, Randy and Karloff Jackson and his wife Cindy. Mrs. Hankal loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She was employed in the alterations department of JC Penny when she retired in 2001. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener with a passion for beautiful flowers. She was a great cook and especially enjoyed cooking for her family. Survivors include: her loving husband of Fifty-nine years, Bill Hankal of the home; three daughters, Janie White and her husband Roger of Jonesborough, Anita Ayers of Erwin and Rita Laughren and her husband Gary of Jonesborough; two sons, Billy Hankal and his wife Angie of Jonesborough and Joe Hankal of Telford; one sister, Judee Howell and her husband Steve of Johnson City; one brother, Gary Jackson and his wife Louella of Johnson City; sister in laws, Jean Jackson and Louise Jackson; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren. A private graveside service for Mrs. Carmeleta J. Hankal will be conducted on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Lenny Smith and Gary Dean Laughren will officiate.
