Carole Rae Penix

March 5, 1942 — June 17, 2009

Carole Rae Penix, 67, of 720 Old Gray Station Road, Gray, Tennessee, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Pennington Gap, Virginia, daughter of Beulah Bailey Owens of Gray and the late Herb Welch. Carole was a homemaker and member of the Heritage Baptist Church. She loved to shop with her mother and sister, loved flowers and being with her family and was an animal lover who couldnt pass up a stray cat or dog. Carole also did the bookkeeping for her husbands company and traveled with him on the road before her illness. Survivors other than her mother include, her husband of forty-three years, Thomas H. Penix of the home; a daughter, Scottie Rae Gardner of Johnson City; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Tommy Lee and Laura Penix Church of Johnson City; a sister, Billie Arnold of Gray; a granddaughter, Brandie Renae Rollins of Gray; a great granddaughter, Alyssa Bourdies of Gray; a special cousin and her husband, Debbie and Tom Jennings of Gray; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Richard Bawgus and Rev. Allen Campbell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of the Washington County Memory Gardens. Entombment will follow. Active pallbearers will be: Tom Jennings, Roy Penix, Luke, Matt and Thomas Jennings, Terry Whitaker and Jeff Bailey. The family and friends are asked to assemble by 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to leave in procession to the cemetery.
