Carrie Martine Treichel, 98, of 413 W. Oakland Ave., passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005, at NHC Healthcare. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence O. Treichel, in 1978; three sisters, Ethel West, Helen Enocksen and Mable Murray; and two brothers, Bud Martine and John Martine. Surviving are her nieces and nephews, Ron and Linda West, Lynwood, Ill., Carol Ann and Jerry Steele, Cape Coral, FL, Ethel E. Williams, Roanoke, VA, Barbara Nelson, Las Vegas, NV, Shirlee and Dan Gouwens, Munster, IN, Gloria and Ed Girard, Hammond, ID, John and Kathy Martine, IL, Rex Martine and Joseph Martine, both of IL; several great-nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Chris Bryant, Bill Turner, Zett Gortney, Elsie and Carol Denton, and Desiree and Ben Peterson. Carrie was a native of the Chicago area, moving to Johnson City about 58 years ago. She was a former member of the Lutheran Church. She came to know the Lord in later years. Mrs. Treichel was retired from JC Penney Company. She had the privilege of cutting the ribbon for the 90th anniversary of JC Penney at the Johnson City Mall. Carrie was a primitive artist with Lifetime Membership in the Watauga Valley Art League. She was the league?s oldest member, serving as Historian for 12 years. She wrote two great cookbooks in later years. Carrie was a quilt maker and supplied family and friends with many warm quilts. Funeral services for Mrs. Treichel will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, June 23, 2005, from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Jody Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
