Cecil Robbins

Cecil Robbins, age 85, born December 1, 1920, was a long time resident of the Boones Creek area. He was the son of the late Richard and Josephine Carmichel Robbins. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Searl Robbins, his older brother, Herman Robbins and a sister, Mary Hazel Gray. He loved his church and church family. He taught Sunday school, led singing and sang in the choir and quartets; was active in the United Methodists Men?s Group and helped with various other ministries in the church. He was a member of Boones Creek United Methodist Church. His hobbies were baseball, hunting, fishing, and working in his garden growing vegetables. His favorite pastime was woodworking, which kept him busy after he retired from the City of Johnson City?s Water Department after 36 years service. He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1939. He played baseball after he graduated with his twin brother Searl. He is survived by his wife, R. Helen Riffey Robbins of 63 years, a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Robbins Hitechew and husband Harry, 'Buck', a son, Landon Dale Robbins and daughter-in-law, Ruthanne Range Robbins, two grandsons, Joshua Landon Robbins and Erik Lee Hitechew, one granddaughter, Kristen Danielle Robbins and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service for Mr. Robbins will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, November 16, 2006 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel. Reverend Jane Taylor, Reverend Garland James and Reverend Homer Roller will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Friday, November 17, 2006 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be John Glaze, Bob Davidson, Larry Shropshire, Bill Gray, nephew, Rev. John Hitchew, Erik Hitechew, grandson, Joshua Robbins, grandson and Mike Bauguess. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Yates, Charlie Winebarger, Luther Curtis, Tom Kleffman, Andrew Tolley, Ron Manning, Larry Gray, nephew and Oran Weeks. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Boones Creek United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 110 Mary Street, Gray, TN 37615.
