Charles E. Whitson

Charles E. Whitson, 79, 907 Afton Street, Johnson City died Friday, October 19, 2007 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Whitson was a native of Relief, N.C. and had lived in Johnson City more then forty years. He was a son of the late Calvin and Nerva Barnett Whitson. Mr. Whitson was a retired employee of Harris-Tarkett with thirty-seven years of service. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Mr. Whitson is preceded in death by: his parents; one son Darrell Lynn Whitson; his first wife, Rosie Mae Vance Whitson; two sisters, Mary Ray and May Barnett; three brothers, Starlin Whitson, Farrell Whitson, and Cass Whitson. Mr. Whitson enjoyed very much Hunting, Fishing, and watching Wrestling and Cowboy Movies. Survivors include: his ex-wife, Dovie Jean Whitson of Unicoi, TN; three sons, J.B. Whitson, Michael Whitson and girlfriend, Christen Wilson all of Johnson City, and Charles R. Whitson of Unicoi; three daughters and husbands, Polly and Michael Tolley of Jonesborough, Patricia and Danny Smith of Johnson City, and Patty DuBois of Erwin, TN; two brothers, Ray Whitson and Lee Whitson, both of Green Mountain, NC; two sisters, Darlena Miller of Johnson City and Shirley Hughes of Buladean, NC; seven grandchildren, one great grandson, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Charles E. Whitson will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, October 22, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Monday prior to the service. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 10:30 AM Tuesday to go in procession. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
