Charles E. Whitson, 79, 907 Afton Street, Johnson City died Friday, October 19, 2007 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Whitson was a native of Relief, N.C. and had lived in Johnson City more then forty years. He was a son of the late Calvin and Nerva Barnett Whitson. Mr. Whitson was a retired employee of Harris-Tarkett with thirty-seven years of service. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Mr. Whitson is preceded in death by: his parents; one son Darrell Lynn Whitson; his first wife, Rosie Mae Vance Whitson; two sisters, Mary Ray and May Barnett; three brothers, Starlin Whitson, Farrell Whitson, and Cass Whitson. Mr. Whitson enjoyed very much Hunting, Fishing, and watching Wrestling and Cowboy Movies. Survivors include: his ex-wife, Dovie Jean Whitson of Unicoi, TN; three sons, J.B. Whitson, Michael Whitson and girlfriend, Christen Wilson all of Johnson City, and Charles R. Whitson of Unicoi; three daughters and husbands, Polly and Michael Tolley of Jonesborough, Patricia and Danny Smith of Johnson City, and Patty DuBois of Erwin, TN; two brothers, Ray Whitson and Lee Whitson, both of Green Mountain, NC; two sisters, Darlena Miller of Johnson City and Shirley Hughes of Buladean, NC; seven grandchildren, one great grandson, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Charles E. Whitson will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, October 22, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Monday prior to the service. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 10:30 AM Tuesday to go in procession. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. To those who desire, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 500 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601 The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to JCMC Hospice, the staff of 3400 at JCMC and Dr. Stephen Frye for all their loving care and concern given to Mr. Whitson and his family.
