Charles L. Carter, 69, Johnson City, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Carter was a native of Sanford, N.C. and had lived in Johnson City since 1968. He was a son of the late David L. and Bertha Tickle Carter. Mr. Carter was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Grace Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Carter is preceded in death by: his parents; and his wife Kathy Carter in 1990. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jeff Smith of Johnson City; four brothers, Norman Carter of Church Hill, TN, Walter Carter of Columbia, SC, Joe Carter of Gray, and David Carter of Sanford, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Charles L. Carter will be conducted at 8 PM Friday, September 22, 2006 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Adam Risher and Rev. Michael Carter will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 11:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard from Kingsport. Active pallbearers will be Family and Friends. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service.
