Charlotte Hope S. Sheppard was born on June 26, 1924 in Elizabethton, TN. After a long battle with cancer she passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2006 in Johnson City, TN. She was preceded in death by: her father, Roy B. Smith; her mother, Etta Kate Hensley Smith; stepmother, Bertha Payne Smith; and her first husband, Stanford J. Potter. She was a homemaker and was previously employed by United Inter-Mountain Telephone Company, Elizabethton, TN and retired from King?s Department Store, Johnson City in 1961. Mrs. Sheppard was a member of the United Methodist Women?s Circle number Three at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Second Friday Bridge Club. She also loved playing golf. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of forty one years, James T. Sheppard, Sr; a son, Stanford J. Potter, Jr. and wife Linda of Bristol, TN; stepdaughter, Steva Williams and husband Bill of Suffolk, VA; step-daughter, Patricia Jones and husband Lee, of Elizabeth City, NC; step-son, James T. Sheppard, Jr. and wife Lyle of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Marie Hodge and Katie Williams of Elizabethton, TN; niece, Tonya Ann Smith of Elizabethton, TN; Nephew, Phil McQueen of Johnson City, TN; sister-in-law, Grace Kirk of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Pat Scofield and husband Fred of Clearwater, FL;four grandchildren, Courtney, Ashley, Lindsey and Taylor; step-grandsons, Justin and Jarrett Hayes. The funeral service for Charlotte Hope S. Sheppard will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday, January 24, 2006 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Byron Taylor will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park in Johnson City, TN. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Phil Walters, Phil McQueen, Bill Williams, Lee Taylor Jones, Jr., Bill Breeding, and Fred Brandt. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Scofield, Dr. W. C. Kirk, Jr., Dr. Tony Haley, Dr. William Kincaid, Dr. Janet Drake, Dr. Paul Brown, Jim Horton, and J.W. Conrey. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 PM Tuesday in the funeral chapel and other times at the residence. The family wishes to recognize and thank the staff of McLeod Cancer Center, John Lawson Group, ETSU Physicians and Associates, the 3400 wing of Johnson City Medical Center, Wilson Home Health Care, and Johnson City Medical Center Hospice Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Munsey Memorial Methodist Church, 201 East Market Street, Johnson City,TN 37601
