Chester Stephen Smith

Chester Stephen Smith, 66, Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Chester was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late John Smith and Frances Carol Irvine Smith.

Chester proudly served our country in the United States Army as a Veterinary Specialist. After his service, he worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital as a Patient Care Representative.

Chester was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, also affectionately known as “Peepop.”

In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by two brothers, John Smith and Michael Martin.

Survivors include, his wife, Mitzi Malone; son, Michael (Holly) Malone of Page, Arizona; two daughters, Alexia (Mark) Poston of Bristol, Virginia and Layla Jones of Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Landon, Robert, Claire, Lilly, Stephen, Scarlett, Liam, and Eden; two brothers, George Martin of New Jersey, and Richard (Trish) Martin of North Carolina; two sisters, Betty Majkrzak of New Jersey, and Carol Rickborn of Florida; sisters-in-law, Marsha Waddell (and Brian Goin) of Jacksonville, Florida and Claudine (and the late Jack) Davis of Raleigh, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dan Jones.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 16th, 2021, from 12:30-1:30pm in the Dogwood Chapel at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will follow at 2:00pm, at Mountain Home National Cemetery Annex (Lake Dr W, Johnson City, TN 37604). Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the Annex by 1:50 pm to go in procession to the committal shelter.
