Claude Raymond Potter, 87, of Johnson City, passed away Monday December 9, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Tamarack, NC and had lived here most of his life. He was the son of the late Jake and Virgie Potter. Claude was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army in both Germany and the Aleutian Islands. He was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 934. His nicknames were 'Poncho'?, 'Overtime Hound'? and 'Rebel'?. His job as an electrician afforded him the opportunity to work in several of the northern states until his retirement. He was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a friend to all who knew him. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone who would listen. He belonged to Tacoma Church of God where he served as treasurer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Christian Potter, a daughter, Kathy Potter, a son-in-law, Jerry Tapp, a grandchild, Lynsey Ford, two brothers, Lloyd F. Potter and Bruce Glenn Potter, eight brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law. Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim & Patti Potter of Johnson City and Dan and Paulette Potter of Bluff City, four daughters and two sons-in-law, Claudia Ann and Tony Stitt of Mocksville, N.C., Debbie Tapp of Johnson City, Sherry and Terry Ford of Trophy Club, Texas and Nancy Potter of Johnson City, brother-in-law, Carl Christian and wife Ginger of Piney Flatts, eight grandchildren, Kelley (Tori) Mann, Alex (Carrie) Potter, Ashley (Jason) Miller, Bradley Potter (Audrey Cloyd), Krysten (Jeremy) Baxley, Ryan Potter (Miranda Lilly), Stefanie Ford and Nathan Archer, three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Shane and Molly, several nieces and nephews and a very special friend Hazel Jordan and her family. A funeral service scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 5:00 pm under the direction of Dr. Darrell Sovine and Pastor Rick Ballard. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until time of service at 5:00 pm in the South Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will follow on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Friends and family are to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession at 9:40 am. Active pall bearers: Alex, Bradley, Ryan, Jeremy, Jason and Tori. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tacoma Church of God, 1005 John Exxum Parkway, Johnson City, TN 37604.
