Cloda B. Lewis

Cloda B. Lewis, 86, 2018 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City died Thursday, November 20, 2008 in the Appalachian Christian Village. Mrs. Lewis was a native of Tazewell, Tenn. who lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Lilly Pearson Barnard. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Hunter Murray in 1972; three brothers, Ernest, Estel and Luther Barnard; one sister, Loeda Shockley. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Pinecrest Baptist Church. She received her B.S. Degree from Lincoln Memorial University. She was working in Oak Ridge when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. She was a Lab assistant at Leon Ferenbach Textile Plant and also worked at Sperry/Univac Missile Plant. Mrs. Lewis was an assistant Librarian at Mayne Williams Public Library, Kings Springs Elementary and North Side Elementary. Survivors include: her husband, George M. Lewis, Sr. of the home; one stepson, Mack Lewis, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Johnson City. Mack Jr. loved Cloda as if she was his real mother. Three brothers, Lewis Barnard and his wife Jewel, J.P. Barnard and his wife Fay and Fred Barnard and his wife Jean; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Cloda B. Lewis will be conducted at 8 PM Saturday, November 22, 2008 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Pastor Gary D. Thacker will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted 2 PM Sunday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be nephews and members of the Pinecrest Baptist Church. Family and friends will meet at the funeral chapel at 1:30 PM Sunday to go in procession. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Saturday prior to the service and other times at the residence of the stepson Mack Lewis, Jr., 2164 Old Lewis Road, Johnson City.
