Clyde William Hartley

February 25, 1936 — November 9, 2010

Clyde W. Hartley, age 74, a devoted Christian, husband, father, brother, and grandfather went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Hartley suffered from a broken heart after recently losing his wife Shirley unexpectedly. He was born in Jonesborough, Tennessee, a son of the late Thomas Clayton and Bertha Lee Jenkins Hartley. He was retired with over 40 years of service as a Fork Lift Truck Operator from General Shale. Mr. Hartley was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Ann Loveless Hartley, one son, Clyde Junior Hartley, and one brother, Carl Hartley. Mr. Hartley is survived by two sons, David Wayne Hartley and Jeffrey Lynn Hartley and wife Rose; one daughter, Melissa Hartley Gunter and husband Chris; two granddaughters, Heather Campbell and Chelsea Elizabeth Gunter; one grandson, Elijah Jack Hartley; one great granddaughter, Cadence Campbell; four brothers, Paul Hartley, Luther Hartley, Charlie Hartley and Dallas Hartley and their spouses; four sisters, Helen Odom, Maud Munsey, Ivalee Copas, and Ruby Dupkoski and their spouses; two brother-in-laws, Rev. Norman 'Bud'? Loveless and wife Bonnie and Kenneth Loveless and wife Brenda; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm Friday afternoon, November 12, 2010 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Roy Yelton and Pastor Norman Loveless officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bobby Loveless, Danny Loveless, Steve McLaughlin, Matt Simerly, Eric Odom, and Jerry Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Loveless, David Warden, Woody Lyons, Kevin Pitman, and men of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN., 38105. Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN., 423-282-1521, is in charge of arrangements.
