Colleen Louise Heaton

Colleen Louise Bogart Heaton, 86, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 in Cornerstone Village. Colleen was a native of Erwin. She was a daughter of the late Fred and Leora Peterson Bogart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Francis Heaton; daughter, Debra Elaine Heaton; sister, Maxine Litle; and brothers, Jimmy and Jerry Bogart. Survivors include: her three children, Patrick Heaton and his wife Karen Ann, Beth Markland, and Eric Heaton and his wife Debbie; four grandchildren, Michael Heaton and his wife Nicole, Ryne Heaton, Robert Markland and his wife Sara, and Brittany Heaton; two great grandchildren, Kirsten and Connor Heaton; brother, Fred Bogart and his wife Mindy; and several nieces and nephews. Colleen traveled the world. She raised her five children in Libya, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines before returning to Washington County. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and crossword puzzles. Colleen worked all her life while at times raising her five children on her own. She never complained and held her family together through the tragedy of losing two of her children to diabetes. Her friends and family dearly miss her quiet strength and unyielding compassion. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 pm Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin. Rev. Eric Heaton will officiate. Family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker at 1 pm Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
