Connie L. Jenkins, 58, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 16, 2008 after a heroic battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends. A Johnson City native, he had lived in Piney Flats since the mid-seventies. He was the only child of the late Leona Jenkins. Connie was a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. He loved music and at one time enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was a member of M. M. Martin Masonic Lodge # 547. Until the time of his disability, he had been employed at Sheffield Auto Mart for many years. Prior to that he owned and operated Connies Direct Wholesale in Jonesborough. Connie is survived by his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Judy N. Jenkins, of the home; three children, Jack Jenkins and his wife Allison of Piney Flats, Rick Jenkins and his wife Tami of Jonesborough, and Angela Barnett of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Jake Barnett, Jessee Jenkins, Page Barnett, and Courtlin Jenkins; and a great grandson, L.J. Jeter. Three aunts and several cousins including a special cousin, Carolyn Oaks of Johnson City, and a host of friends also survive. The family of Connie Jenkins would like to extend a very special thank you to their friend, Nancy Feathers as well as Adventa Hospice of Elizabethton for the special care and support they gave to Connie during his illness. A celebration of Connie Jenkins life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 8:00 pm from the South Chapel of Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Dr. Allen Davis, Rev. Gary Thacker and Rev. Randy Gillam will officiate. Internment will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens at 10:00 am on Wednesday. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 9:30 am Wednesday and proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Sheffield, Brownie Sheffield, Kevin Sheffield, Carl Briggs, Jerry Hubbard, Phil Gentry, Gene Oaks, Larry Arnold, and Eddie Chandler. The Classic Car Group, Randal Justice, and the Euel Goodman Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
