Mr. Danny A. Whisenhunt, 66, of Johnson City, went to his heavenly home singing all the way on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mr. Whisenhunt was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Arthur and Ina Scalf Whisenhunt. Mr. Whisenhunt retired from General Shale after thirty four years of service. Mr. Whisenhunt was a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers W.H. Steppe and Ed Steppe; two sisters, Linda Copas and Sue Wyatt. Survivors include: his wife of twenty-one years, Joan Whisenhunt; one son, Daniel Whisenhunt; one step daughter, Kimbley Eggers and her husband Brian and their daughter Savannah Eggers; one brother, Travis Whisenhunt; two sisters, Barbara Copas and Mary Tenpenny. Mr. Whisenhunt had a life long love of fishing, hunting, history and cooking. He never met a stranger because everyone was a potential friend. He loved his family and his family loved him. The family of Mr. Danny A. Whisenhunt will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday, January 31, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Chapel. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Richard Bawgus officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Lyons Cemetery, 1259 Dry Creek Road, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 PM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
