Darwin Frederick Kilby

November 9, 1931 — November 8, 2005

Darwin F. Kilby, 73, 119 W. 10th Ave., died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Kilby was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Elbert Edgar and Erma Blanche Esteppe Kilby and was also preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Renee Cozad (Kilby), two brothers, C.V. Kilby and Raymond E. Kilby. Mr. Kilby was a US Air Force Korean War veteran. He was a retired office manager for Tri-Cities Insulation for over thirty years and later enjoyed a second career with the Johnson City Post Office. Mr. Kilby was an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church since 1965, where all will miss his trumpet playing. He also played the trumpet with the Johnson City Community Concert Band. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hensley Kilby; three sisters, Eileen Rose, Jewel D. Clawson and Carolyn H. Hodge all of Johnson City; four brothers, David Kilby, Ronald Kilby, Larry Kilby all of Johnson City and Robert Kilby, Jonesborough and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Kilby will be held on Friday, November 11, 2005 at 7:00 PM from the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Rev. Joe d-Dowlingsoka and Rev. Larry DeVault will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the funeral. Military graveside rites will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2005 by VFW Post #3382 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Bill Bailey, Jim Webster, Pete Lonon, Art Emerson, Paul Devoti, and Jordan Fenner will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 120 E. Chilhowie Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601.
