Deborah Lynn Barnett

July 19, 1955 — January 6, 2015

Deborah Lynn Barnett of Johnson City, was called back to Heaven after being an angel on earth for 59 years. She passed Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center due to complications from Alzheimers disease. She was born July 19, 1955, the daughter of Bill and Nell Hicks Barnett and was raised in Johnson City by grandparents, Laura and John Barnett. Debbie was a happy easygoing child who was a master at jackrocks and bike riding, and as a young person, she loved to read. She graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1975 and ETSU in 1997 with a bachelors degree in elementary education. Ms. Barnett taught elementary school for 27 years at Keystone and Mountain View Elementary Schools. Debbie lit up a room with her amazing smile! She was kind to everyone she met. She mothered her nieces and nephews as well as all her students. She worked hard, loved true and loved the LORD. Survivors include: her aunts, Ginger B. Jilton of Johnson City, Carolyn Trent, and her husband Sherrill, of Gray; her sister/aunt, Pamela F. Barnett of Johnson City; four half brothers, Billy Barnett of Oregon, Cord Barnett of Washington, and Terry Hicks and Raymond Stevens both of Roan Mountain; and two half sisters, Denise and Vicki, as well and cousins whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, her paternal grandparents, Laura and John Barnett, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow at 4:00 pm at Morris-Baker under the direction of Clinton Andrews, Minister. A committal service will be conducted Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 1:30 pm Sunday.
