Dorothy Anne Beals York Ballew, 84, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Life Care Center of Gray. Dot was a Johnson City native. She was the daughter of the late Leslie Reginald and Mary Dorothy Dowling Beals. She graduated from Science Hill High School and then went on to attend Mary Baldwin College before receiving her degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She worked as a social worker in adoptions for the State of Tennessee for many years and later volunteered as a Medical Social Consultant at several nursing homes in the area. In 1986, she obtained her stockbroker?s license and went to work for Raymond James. In recent years she had volunteered at The River, a ministry of the First Presbyterian Church for women and children in need. Dot married Robert L. (Bob) York in 1955. After his passing, she married Charles W. (Bill) Ballew in 1991. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Robert L. (Bob) York and her second husband, Charles W. (Bill) Ballew. Dot is survived by: her daughter, Jenanne (Bob), grandson Clayton and Bill?s three children, Lynn (Chris), Charles (Cathy) and Ellen (Steve), as well as 6 other grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. The family of Dorothy Ballew will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Morris-Baker. The memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7:30 pm with Rev. Jane Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The River, 125 W. Main Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
