Dorothy Irene Whitlock

September 2, 1918 — February 14, 2007

Dorothy Irene Heck Whitlock, born September 2, 1918, went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2007. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, living in Johnson City for more than 50 years. Mrs. Whitlock worked for Intermountain Telephone Company from 1937 - 1948 and for more than 25 years served as a volunteer at the Johnson City Medical Center. She dearly loved and was loved by her church 'family' at Southside Baptist Church where she served as the pianist for forty years and had taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class as well. In addition to her parents, Cornelius and Mary Jane Tester Heck, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred William Whitlock, two sons, Major Wayne D. Whitlock, USAF and Dr. David W. Whitlock, DDS: two sisters, Opal Heck Stata, Lena Heck and a brother & sister-in-law, Dana & Marie Heck all formerly of Johnson City and a sister-in-law, Zalene Whitlock formerly of Marysville. Mrs. Whitlock, is survived by a devoted daughter-in-law, Elaine Whitlock, Johnson City, two grandchildren, Amy Whitlock (& Jason) Martin, Acworth, GA; and Scott (& Emily) Whitlock, Abilene, TX, one sister-in-law, Mary Haldine Whitlock, Johnson City, four brother-in-laws, Kenneth Whitlock, Marysville, TN, James 'Mack' Whitlock and wife Ethel, Kingsport, Kyle Whitlock and wife Carol, Massillon, OH, Weldon D. Whitlock, Johnson City, a special niece and her husband, Jim & Norma Starr, Johnson City and numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Southside Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. John Perkins and Rev. Joel Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Interment is to follow at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Jerry Walker, Carmen Clark, Luther Livingston, Zachary Livingston, David Newell, and Joey Chapman. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Lakebridge Health Care Center for their devotion and loving care of Dorothy over the past year and to her closest friends, Betty Grindstaff, Rita Thomason, Polly Walker and Roberta Futrell who blessed and touched her life in a way that only eternity can measure. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the General Fund at Southside Baptist Church, 1928 Wheeler Street, Johnson City, 37604.
