Dorothy Marie Pickering

Dorothy Marie Pickering, 80, of Navarre, Florida and formerly of Johnson City passed away with her loved ones around her on Saturday, March 10, 2007 in Navarre. Mrs. Pickering was born on November 11, 1927 in Wallace, Virginia. She was the second child of Robert and Lena Blanche Smith and the sister of Curtis Smith. She was married in 1946 to Samuel O. Pickering, and the couple lived on Lee Circle in Johnson City with their daughter Marcella until they moved to a home on Stoney Creek in Elizabethton. Mrs. Pickle worked at North American Rayon Corporation until she retired in 1992. She was a former member of the Biltmore Baptist Church in Elizabethton. Mrs. Pickering lost her husband, Sam Pickering in 2000 and then moved to be with her daughter Marcella and husband Lewis Daughtery in Navarre, Florida. Mrs. Pickering loved puzzles, board games, and reading biographies. She was an excellent cook and impeccable housekeeper who enjoyed gathering with her family and friends. An avid sports fan, Dot could often be seen proudly wearing the bright orange of her beloved Tennessee Volunteers, or be heard cheering feverishly for the Atlanta Braves. Survivors include: one daughter, Marcella and husband Lewis Daughtery of Navarre, FL; a step-son Samuel Pickering, Jr. of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren, Cynthia Dixon of Navarre, Brian Daughtery of Cummings, GA, Joey Daughtery of Good Hope, GA., Rickey Daughtery of Camp Lejeune, NC, Danny Daughtery of Atlanta, GA, Hera Pickering of Johnson City, Dalon Pickering of Johnson City; seven beautiful great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Darlene Smith of Elizabethton; a niece, Barbara Adams of Johnson City; and a nephew, Samuel 'Bud' Hodge of Englewood, Florida. A graveside funeral service for Dorothy Marie Pickering will be conducted at 3:30 PM Thursday, March 15, 2007 at the Roselawn Memorial Park. Rev. Dale Greenwell will officiate. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 2 to 3 PM Thursday. A procession will then go to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
