Earle Reynolds Buchanan

Earle 'Bucky'? Reynolds Buchanan, Jr., age 79, of Johnson City, died Thursday, December 2, 2010, from complications of a lengthy illness. He was a native of Johnson City and the son of the late Ruby Bishop Buchanan and Earle Reynolds Buchanan, Sr. He was an active member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as usher and youth counselor. Mr. Buchanan was a staff sergeant in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After serving his country he attended ETSU where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa while earning his B. S. in Education and Masters of Fine Arts degrees. Mr. Buchanan taught art in the Kingsport city school system for many years. He was a talented artist focusing in ceramic and metal sculpture. He was an avid student of local history, and enjoyed visiting with friends and sharing stories. Survivors include: his wife, Linda Lawrence Buchanan; son, Scott Buchanan, and his wife Tamara, of Johnson City; two daughters, Laura Johnston, and her husband Joseph, of Knoxville, and Melissa Buchanan, of Johnson City; sister, Carolyn Emerson, of Naples, FL; three grandchildren, Adam Johnston, Garrison Buchanan, and Emerson Buchanan; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend special thanks to Bettina LaVoie and Regina Proffitt for their care. Funeral services for Mr. Buchanan will be conducted 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Brian Taylor and Rev. Michael Lester will officiate. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. A committal service will be conducted at Mt. Home National Cemetery on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:00. Military Honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW and the Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tipton-Haynes Historic Site, 2620 South Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601-7585 or Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 East Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37601-4873.
