Edith J. Garland, 90, 527 Matson Road, Jonesborough died Thursday, April 5, 2007 in the North Side Hospital. Mrs. Garland was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Alf Jarrett and Mattie Woody Jarrett. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Manis L. Garland in 1990 and three brothers, Shelton Jarrett, A.J. Jarrett and Brown Jarrett. Mrs. Garland was a homemaker and a cafeteria worker in the Johnson City School system. She was a member of the Midway Baptist Church. Survivors: Jarrett family, two sisters-in-laws, Nell D. Jarrett and Norris Jarrett; one niece, Rebecca J. Eason; four nephews, Larry Jarrett, James Jarrett, Paul Jarrett and Steve Jarrett; several great nieces and nephews. Garland family, two sisters-in-laws Bonnie Lowrey and Lucy Van Huss; brother-in-law, Leonard Garland and his wife Bea; two nieces Ann Jackson and Betty Thomas; two nephews; Roy Garland, Jr. and Claude Taylor. The funeral service for Edith J. Garland will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday, April 7, 2007 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev William Taylor will officiate. The graveside service will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 12 noon to 1 PM Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Midway Baptist Church, 3414 West Walnut Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
