Edward J. Ryan Jr. 88 of Jonesborough TN, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Morris Baker Funeral Home A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church, 2211 East Lakeview Ave. Johnson City. Interment will take place following the Mass at Monte Vista Cemetery. Born April 10, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, Ed was the son of the late Edward J. and Katherine Haefner Ryan. He was a 1944 graduate of St. Josephs Collegiate Institute, a World War II Navy veteran and a 1950 graduate of University of Buffalo. Ed and Nancy moved to Charlotte in 1978 with Gold Bond Division of National Gypsum Company. He retired in 1988 as Director of Engineering. An active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Ed was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus having served as Charter Faithful Navigator of Assembly 2208 and long time Financial Secretary of Council 7343. He moved to Jonesborough in 2003 and became active in the local Knights of Columbus Council and 4th Degree Assembly, The Greenwood Ruritan Club and several ministries at St. Marys. The late Nancy Dearing Ryan, his wife of nearly 50 years, as well as two stillborn daughters preceded him in death, Survivors include daughters, Peggy (Frank) Ryan Wansley of Jonesborough, TN, Mary (Dave) Austin of Johnson City and Kathy (the late Buck) Owens Jonesborough TN, his grandchildren Maria (Dan) Showman, Bonnie Saleh (David), Amanda (Jason) Butterfield, Audra Owens, Kacy (Daniel) Pleasants and four great-grandchildren also survive him. The family has requested memorials be made to St Marys Church Building Fund, Knights of Columbus Council 4264 MR Drive or the charity donors choice.
