Eleanor Fay Granny Bicknell

April 16, 1931 — March 22, 2016

'Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.' John 14: 1-3 KJV Mrs. Eleanor Fay 'Granny' Bicknell, 84, of Johnson City, TN was reunited with her husband Bobbie Lee and daughter Karen in the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Fay was the first daughter born to Arthur and Gladys Rogerson Enman on April 16, 1931, in Waltham, Massachusetts. Later the family relocated to Prince Edward Island, Canada. There were ten children - eight siblings and their spouses who survive Fay today. In addition to her parents, husband, and oldest daughter, Fay was preceded in death by a young brother, Ralph. Fay returned to the United States when she was 18 years old, where she met the love of her life Bobbie Lee Bicknell. They married in 1949 while he was stationed at Walter Reed in Bethesda, MD, prior to his service in Korea. They had three children and eventually moved to Johnson City, TN in 1965. Fay worked in the business office at Kings Department Store, Downtown Johnson City following her husbands death in 1968, and later worked in the library at East Tennessee State University until her retirement in 1999. She received the Library Laureate Award for Distinguished Service upon her retirement. Fay was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church for 47 years. She enjoyed the holidays and spending time with her family, shopping with friends, and sharing her talent for knitting. Every sweater, afghan and baby blanket was a labor of love, and she made many beautiful gifts for family, friends and their children over the years. Additional survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Steve Holmes, Jonesborough, TN; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Julie Bicknell, Johnson City, TN; two grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Martin, Tyler, TX and Chelsea Marie Holmes, Denver, CO; special friends Barbara Marrs and Anne Beard, and her rescue kitty Daisy Mae 'Baby' Bicknell. A private graveside committal was held at Monte Vista on Friday afternoon, March 25, 2016. Rev. Karl Gasser officiated the service, sharing favorite scriptures and hymns he and Granny would sing together, including The Old Rugged Cross and The Church In the Wildwood. The family would like to express profound gratitude to those who cared so lovingly for Granny: Dr. Angela Merrifield, Firstchoice Family Healthcare; Jeremy, Judy, Samantha and staff at Christian Care Center of Johnson City; Karl, Karmen, Aaron, Debbie and staff at Amedisys in Elizabethton, TN. You are dear friends and such kindness will never be forgotten. The family requests memorial donations to Niswonger Childrens Hospital, First United Methodist Church, Christian Care Center of Johnson City, or Amedisys Hospice, Elizabethton, TN.
