Elva M. Ayers

December 15, 1910 — September 21, 2005

Elva M. Ayers, 94, 308 Hillcrest Drive, entered into heaven on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at NHC Healthcare, after a valiant nine year battle with Alzheimer?s Disease. Mrs. Ayers was a native of Green Mountain, NC and had lived in Johnson City since 1958. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Maude Garland Bailey and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Ayers in 1991, one son, Richard E. Ayers and one brother, Howard Bailey. Mrs. Ayers was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, James Ayers, Jonesborough and Wayne Ayers, Johnson City; three daughters, Charlsie Jean Garland, Johnson City, Lois A. Kyker, Telford and Faye Ledford, Erwin; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Ayers will be conducted at 2 PM Friday from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Eugene Higgins will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Naomi Harrell and Bruce Davis. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 308 Hillcrest Drive or at 165 Austin Springs Road and also at 266 Roy Green Rd., Telford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
