Elvan Long

September 3, 1926 — April 20, 2011

Mr. Elven Long, age 84, of Bluff City, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Mr. Long was born in Barnwell, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Perry Patrick Long and Annie Martha Youngblood Long. In addition to his parents, three brothers, Sidney Long, Willie Long, Fred Long and two sisters, Annie Lou Justus and Mary Mayers also preceded him in death. Mr. Long served his country in World War II and Korea. He worked as a Nuclear Welder for Westinghouse Power Plants. Mr. Long was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a faithful member of the Piney Flats First Baptist Church. Survivors include: his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Carmileta Long of the home; two daughters, Linda Duncan and her husband Billy of Austin, Texas and Patti Crumley and her husband Billy of Greeneville, Tennessee; one son, David Long and his wife Jennifer of Selma North Carolina; five grandchildren, Sarah Duncan of Raleigh, North Carolina, Bradley Duncan of Raleigh, North Carolina, Matthew Crumley and his wife Sarah of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jennifer Crumley of Greeneville and Lydia Long of Selma, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Piney Flats First Baptist Church from 6 to 8 PM Friday, April 22, 2011 with the funeral service immediately following at 8 PM. Dr. Allen Davis will officiate. Brian Wilson and Tom Anderson will provide music. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be men from the family and from the Piney Flats First Baptist Church. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military rights. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the church by 9:15 AM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Piney Flats First Baptist Church, 100 Cherry Street, Piney Flats, Tennessee 37686.
