Emily Alona Bunting Edwards, age 93, formerly of 1520 Magnolia Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at NHC HealthCare in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was a Portsmouth, Virginia native and a daughter of the late Richard Paul and Mabel Ashworth Bunting. She lived most of her adult life in Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Edwards served on the administrative staff of Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Larchmont Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class, a member of Glenhaven Garden Club, and a member of Silver Cross Circle of the Children?s Hospital of the King?s Daughters. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by: her husband, F. Burton Edwards, Jr., her sister, Shirley Bunting Mount, a niece, Susan Mount Bowles, and a son-in-law, Donald L. Patton. Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy E. Burroughs Christian, and her husband Michael T. Christian, of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Judith E. Patton, of Bradenton, Florida; two grandsons, Burton Edwards Burroughs, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Robert C. Patton, of Bradenton, Florida; and one granddaughter, Meredith P. DePersia, and her husband Geoff, of San Francisco, California. She is also survived by her special friends: members of the Seekers Sunday School Class, Ruby Carson, Rev. John Dean, Larry and Helen Burroughs, Betty and Ed Denniston, Joyce Hale, employees of NHC HealthCare and the Adventa Hospice Team. Funeral services for Mrs. Edwards will be held at Larchmont Baptist Church in Norfolk, Saturday, October 15th at 1:00 PM. Rev. Kenneth Carlton and Rev. John C. Dean will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Private graveside services and burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
