Frances Shoun Snyder

Frances Shoun Snyder, 86, formerly of 611 Holly Hill Road, Johnson City, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the NHC Healthcare Center in Johnson City. She was a native of Doeville, Tennessee and daughter of the late Asa West Shoun and Pearl Laws Shoun. Frances was an educator, having started work with the Holston Ordinance and then attending Peabody College and Vanderbilt University, acquiring her masters degree in Library Science. She founded the library and served as librarian at the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Kingsport. She was principal at Dixon Elementary School for seven years. She then became an Assistant Professor at East Tennessee State University where she was Director of Acquisitions in the ETSU library for thirteen years. She was a devoted member of the Central Baptist Church. She also held memberships in The Order of Eastern Star, Maple Chapter #79; the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority; the Retired Teachers Associations of Kingsport, Washington County, and ETSU; and the Altrusa Club International where she also served as president. The Altrusa members selected her to be honored with the Award of Lifetime Member Altrusa Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John A. Shoun and her sister, Dorothy Shoun Widener. Survivors include: her husband, Jason W. Snyder of Johnson City; daughter, Sandra Shoun of Arlington, Virginia; a grandson, Brandon Shoun-Corry of Arlington, Virginia; two nephews, John West Shoun and Stan Widener; sister-in-law, Marie Shoun; and many cousins. A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church, under the direction of Rev. R. Willard Warfield and Dr. Ron Murray. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at three. A committal service will be conducted at the Lakeview Cemetery in Butler on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. The family and friends will assemble at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Stan Widener, John W. Shoun, Tom Worley, Ronnie Greer, Mark McEwen, Danny Laws, and Bill Pike.
