Frank A. Tannewitz, Jr.

Mr. Frank A. Tannewitz, Jr., 87, 2020 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, he was the son of the late Frank A. Tannewitz, Sr. and Beatrice Dunn Tannewitz. In addition to his parents, one half-brother, Carl Latterell, also preceded him in death. Mr. Tannewitz was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a graduate of ETSU and held a masters degree from UT. A familiar fixture at Science Hill High School from 1948 to 1985, he taught business classes and served as guidance counselor until his retirement, 'Mr. T'? will be remembered his unique style and for taking the time to help any student who asked. Mr. Tannewitz was also regarded as an authority of the areas history by many. Survivors include: his wife of sixty-two years, Sara Dosser Tannewitz; one daughter, Susan Tannewitz-Karnes, and her husband, Lloyd of Overland Park, Kansas; one son, Frank A. Tannewitz, III, of Pensacola, Florida; two grandchildren, Alan Tannewitz Karnes of Kansas, and Frank A. Tannewitz, IV, of Costa Rica. The family will receive visitors in the Morris-Baker South Chapel, Tuesday, July 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Rev. Brian Taylor and Rev. Michael Lester will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Frank A. Tannewitz III, Frank A. Tannewitz IV, Al Dosser IV, Jim Dosser, Elijah Moore and Michael Kellum. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
