Frank Arthur Brimelow

Frank Arthur Brimelow, 83, passed away on July 20, 2018, at his home in Johnson City, TN, after a long illness. Patsy, his faithful wife of 23 years, was by his side. Frank was achemist, historian, college professor, friend, brother, father, husband, grandfather and gentleman. He was widely traveled with friends around the world. Frank was born November 16, 1934 in Boothstown, near Manchester, England. He was christened at St. Pauls Church of England in Walkden. His education in England included junior school in Boothstown, Leigh Grammar School in Wigan, and Salford Technical College, where he earned a BSC in chemistry in 1957. He then went to work at a local chemistry company. Frank arrived in America in 1959, where he earned a master?s degree in chemistry from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (1961), and a doctorate in history and philosophy from The University of South Carolina (1971). Frank taught at Armstrong University in Georgia, was an administrator and professor at The University of South Carolina, and taught chemistry at Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, VA until 1999, when he retired. Frank was active and had many interests. He played cricket in his formative years and enjoyed playing and watching tennis throughout his life. He also enjoyed traveling and hiking. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Tom Brimelow, and mother, Margaret Worthington Brimelow, of Manchester, England. He is survived by his loving wife Patsy Brimelow, daughter Kathleen Williams and husband Glenn from Houston, Texas, grandsons Jake and Syd Williams of Houston, Texas, sister Lesley Munro of Manchester, England, adopted son John Brimelow and Bobbie of Atlanta, Georgia, and stepdaughter Erin Willis of Johnson City, TN. He leaves behind a host of friends and his beloved dog, Sadie. The family of Frank Brimelow will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, in the Morris Baker Dogwood Chapel in Johnson City, TN. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Timothy Atkins officiating, Gary Burgan assisting, and eulogy by Van Rose. Pallbearers will be comprised of family and friends. A committal service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport, TN. Family and friends are asked to gather at the graveside by by 12:50 p.m.
