Fred H. Carver

January 19, 1920 — July 25, 2007

Fred Carver, 87, 508 Autumn Creek Lane, Gray, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 after a heroic battle with cancer. A Carter county native, Mr. Carver was a son of the late Walter L. and Callie Carver. He was a faithful, lifelong member of Watauga Point United Methodist Church. A WW II veteran, Mr. Carver was a glider with the 101st Airborne and served at Normandy as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from North American Raytheon in 1978. In addition to his parents, a sister, Maxine Spoon, also preceded him in death. Mr. Carver is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Freda Heaton Carver of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gary Whittington of Kingsport, two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Wanda Carver of Candler, NC and Danny and Nan Carver of Johnson City; six grandchildren, Tracy, Jennifer, Stephanie, Candace, Haylee, and Garret; as well as four great grandchildren, Gracyn, Jackson, Kylee, and Zachary. A sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Arthur Johnson of Erwin, and a brother and sister-in-law Harold and Joann Carver of Johnson City, and three nephews also survive. A funeral service for Fred Carver will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 8:00 PM from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. Jarod G. Wood will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A graveside committal service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Friends and family are asked to assemble at the funeral home no later than 12:20 to travel by procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Scott, Troy Matzke, Garret Whittington, David Buck, James Smalling, Truman Clark, Dana Dykes and Norman Simerly. The men of Watauga Point United Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
